Bringing people closer to their optimal state of health and happiness is our ultimate mission. Utilizing the time-tested methods of Ayurvedic healing, Poonthottam Ayurvedashram both heals ailments and educates patients
as to preventative measures of effective self-care in-order to bring them back to a state of blissful balance. Unlike other Ayurvedic centers, physicians directly perform the treatments here.

"We strongly feel that the physician has to actively involve in therapeutic procedures like oil treatments. This helps a physician to go into depth of a patient's suffering. They should not be a mere spectator or supervisor".

Different rheumatic conditions, arthritic conditions, asthma and other respiratory conditions, spondylosis (both lumbar ad cervical), disc prolapse, frozen shoulder, skin diseases of different kinds (including conditions like psoriasis), psychiatric conditions like anxiety disorders and depression, wounds, epilepsy, infertility, piles, fistula, duodenal  and peptic ulcer, migraine and other types of headaches, paralytic conditions, diabetes, hypertension are a few conditions which the center treats effectively. Neuro-muscular disorders, gangrenes, motor neuron disease, Parkinson's syndrome, cancers are some of the rare and complicated conditions seek palliative help at the center.

Panchakarma  forms one of the major treatment methods at the center. Preparatory treatments for panchakarma like snehana (oil treatments),  svedana (fomentation), panchakarma treatments like emesis, purgation, medicated enemas, nasal medication are done as per each individual patient's requirements. The center has special interest in rasayana (rejuvenation therapy). Different Kerala special treatments like takradhara, thalapothichil, and navarakizhi are also performed as per patients' needs.

"Ayurvedic profession is becoming highly commercialized. Ayurveda has been commoditized in the name of tourism. Massage centers and Ayurvedic centers have become synonymous. Ayurvedic practice has become distorted and diluted. Revitalizing the classical traditions is inevitable"

Every case that comes to the clinic is documented since 1989. Thus there exists a huge volume of data that an interested Ayurvedic student can look into for therapeutic details. Special cases like cerebral palsy where the center has done some research has been documented in detail. Rigorous research and documentation are undertaken at the ashram to record Physicians' clinical findings and keep a close look on patients' progress. Clinical meetings and peer interaction is a regular feature.

A group of young like-minded people get together for serious clinical discussions on a frequent basis. Apart from medical students, other interested people from foreign countries are also getting trained (informally) in introductory courses of Ayurveda. 3 - 4 physicians both from India and abroad at a time are getting clinical training at the center for about 3 months. link "Diversity and freedom that is allowed in all Indian traditions is amazing. But it creates confusion and chaos among young physicians and even among people with limited knowledge. So we need to create a common language that every Ayurvedist can understand and use without deviating from our classical prescriptions. That is one of our efforts".

"It is not our objective to establish a centre of exception. This has to be a model centre, which any Ayurvedic graduate can establish with near zero capital.

We are giving lot of importance to the training of youngsters. It is very vital because we need to replicate this concept so as to create a generation of Vaidyas who will not be completely dependent on pharmaceutical industry.

We need to have a decentralised health culture and that is the way Ayurveda could be best practiced. If the centre grows beyond a limit, the quality will suffer".
